Today i saw the televison discuss about “how it could they” Malaysia Claims Old Balinese Pendet Dance as their culture, hmm.. from the discussion between annoucer and bali dance practitioners we can get information about history of pendet dance. Pendet Dance is very iconic to Bali’s culture, in the past, this dances just presented on scared event at the pura, this event is more than just dance usually, there are require some condition and some event. Now, pendet dance popular as welcome dance in bali and perform in another event in Bali.
The important information form their talking is “Pendet Dance is a Hindu dance, how could they claimed it when Malaysia’s a muslim country?”..and someting weird is the dancers costum, malaysia is popular as moslem country and always keep their dress and always not show the aurat. The another weird is in Malays There is no word “pendet” mentioned in the official Malaysian “Kamus Dewan” isued in 1970 (source:thejakartapost).
