Tomorrow I have assignment to create flyer design of company profile, this company profile will be create from scratch and use opensource application, So I am prepare the tools and the material require to complete the mission. The firs step is thinking about the concept design and looking for material that I must hunt (fonts, photograph, of course some content). The last material is already prepared by the content administrator, so I can skip to this step.

Looking for beauty Fonts
After thinking and find the concept design in 1st step, I find the fonts to supporting the design, we can looking for beauty fonts collection in dafont.com or other sites, we can also asking to Mr.Google to find the other sites. I download some fonts and the next is I will install on my linux. This is the step of installation the new fonts.

1. Extract the font in your directory, we can just right click on package and select Extract Here, the package will be extracted in one folder with same name with it.
2. If there are more than one folder fonts that we must install, this is better to collect the all fonts (*ttf, *.otf) in one folder first to easier the moving directory
3. We move the the fonts to /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ directory, we can use the root nautilus to do it, Press Alt + F2, and the type “gksu nautilus” insert the sudo password and copy the font that we must install to directory /usr/share/fonts/truetype/your-new-fonts-directory, close the nautilus if the copy progress finish. We use the gksu nautilus to move the font, because we must use root/sudo user to write file system directory
4. open the terminal, Application > accessories > terminal, and the next step we will clear the font cache before, and make new configuration for the new fonts, type
5. $ sudo dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig the font configuration need for a while, we can see the progress in terminal, time to make new configuration depend on number of font that we want to install and create the font cache. After installation complete, the new fonts ready to use.
6. The next duty is create the design using Inkscape, opensource vector graphic editor. We must choose the unique font for special characters, to facilitate this action we can use the fontmatrix, this is application to manage our font collection and help us to see the preview of typical font.
7. To install this application we can find in synaptic package manager (System > administration > synaptic package manager) and then Search the fontmatrix, just apply the button and we can use this application.

Choose your favourite font and use it in Inkscape, we can also use the GIMP to help us, photograph manipulation and image retouch. Happy design..
